What a blessed surprise! At the end of October 2023 we were contacted by an Anglo Celtic Magazine published in Qld. And here we go. In the November issue of the magazine TWO articles about P.E. Strzelecki have appeared.

Dr Lachlan Barnes of Palm Beach, NSW, winner of the second prize in the International Competition “In the Spirit of Strzelecki”. It’s the first song in English about Paul Edmund Strzelecki, explorer, scientist and a humanitarian figure, written in Australia. Truly, a historic moment.

The Verdict Of The International Competition The Spiritof Strzelecki
Kosciuszko Heritage Inc., the organizer of the competition is proud to announce the contents of the Verdict. Members of the jury, having evaluated 182 submissions sent from 9 countries, decided to award 50 prizes in total, including 33 awards in the Adult Category and 17 in the Youth Category (12-18).

A little more than a week ago at West Point Military Academy, during recent renovations, a time capsule placed nearly 200 years ago was found at the base of the Kosciuszko monument.

Save the date! Events for the end of the Strzelecki Year
A Sydney-based organisation Kosciuszko Heritage Inc. invites you to attend events dedicated to Paweł Edmund Strzelecki. The planned events end the celebration of the Strzelecki Year and will take place from October to December 2023 in Victoria and New South Wales.

Monaro Ngarigo honoring the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising
Just a few hours before flying back to Australia, the Monero Ngarigo representatives, along with Djinama Yiliga Choir decided to visit the Warsaw Uprising Museum and to learn about the fate of Warsaw residents, and the courage of the insurgents.

Indigenous Reflections on Genocide and Massacres
Monero Ngarigo elders, traditional custodians of Mt Kosciuszko, along with members of the Djinama Yiliga Choir toured Poland in the footsteps of P.E. Strzelecki on the 150th anniversary of his death. A day after the first performance on Kosciuszko Mound in Kraków, some members of the delegation dashed off to visit the Auschwitz German Nazi Camp.

The powerful delegation from Australia, Monero Ngarigo Traditional Custodians of Mt Kosciuszko, along with Djinama Yiliga Choir is paying tribute to the Kosciuszko Heart which after 166 years found its final resting place in a chapel of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

Monero Ngarigo along with Djinama Yilaga Choir is now in Warsaw, or to be more precise in the suburb of Warsaw, called Ursus, famous for being the craddle of Solidarity movement also known for its large farm tractors factory.

150 years later – The Year of Strzelecki 2023
Sir Paul Edmund de Strzelecki died on October 6, 1873 in London at the age of 76. What legacy did he leave to justify the celebration of a year dedicated to him? His most famous achievement in contemporary consciousness is his ascent of Australia’s highest summit and naming it after Tadeusz Kościuszko.

On a rainy day, 15th of May 2023 the guests from Australia, numerous VIPs and the local community gathered in a historic Bamber barn for an evening function. A series of speeches was followed by a traditional Polish custom of welcoming guests with bread and salt. Gifts inluding Strzelecki’s framed Birth Certificate were presented.

The decision of The Parliament of the Republic of Poland to declare 2023 the Year of Paul Edmund Strzelecki, inspired us to create exhibition “Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki: Australian Explorer, and Irish Humanitarian” for the annual May South Australia’s History Festival.

Monero Ngarigo delegation along with Djinama Yiliga Choir visited St Jacob Church where Paweł Edmund was baptized, viewed the Strzelecki exhibition in the churchyard and enjoyed lunch at the local Fire Brigade quarters.

Monero Ngarigo delegation along with Djinama Yiliga Choir visited Warsaw. It was only now that Uncle John has found time to talk to the camera. He talks about his family history & roots, about Monero Land and Mt Kosciuszko, and also comments on his visit to the German Nazi Camp in Auschwitz.

Kraków, 13th of May 2023, our delegation visiting the Wawel Castle today, descending to the Crypt to pay tribute to Tadeusz Kościuszko, having a walk in the Wawel gardens and enjoying folk music on the street.

The First Nation Delegation to Poland
A delegation of the Monero-Ngarigo is leaving tomorrow (May 9th 2023) for a two-week trip to Poland in the footsteps of Paul Edmund Strzelecki who 183 years ago named the highest Australian mountain after Thaddeus Kosciuszko. Monero Ngarigo are Traditional Custodians of Mt Kosciuszko.

We have the first song in our competition, and it came a long way from Ireland. The song “Pawel’s Children” was written, composed & performed by an Irish musician, singer, author and painter Peter McCluskey.

Another significant overseas visitor who travelled across Kentish’s high country as early as 1841 was renowned Polish scientist Count Paul Strzelecki. Again we ask who were this first international visitor and what was he doing in our Kentish terrority?

Back in 2012 KHI published a tiny but important book written by Felix Molski The best of Human Nature. Strzelecki’s Humanitarian Work in Ireland. It’s been out of stock for some time but luckily we have discovered the master copy (PDF) which was sent to the printery.

On March 12, 2023 the final gala of the competition about Strzelecki was held in the School Complex No. 8 in Poznań. In the Art Competition “In the Footsteps of Paweł Edmund Strzelecki. On a trip around the world” took part students from primary schools.

Much of Strzelecki work here was targeted at children, via schools, where they were fed another eastern European staple, rye bread. At the scheme’s height, 200,000 children benefitted. How many owed their survival to Strzelecki is unknown.

The first competition work has been already received!
A week after the announcement of the International Competition “In the Spirit of Strzelecki”, the first poetry work in Polish was sent to us. Congratulations to the author!

From Sapphire Coast to Głuszyna
In celebration of “2023 the Year of Strzelecki”, Kosciuszko Heritage Inc (KHI) is organizing an expedition of the Aboriginal Choir Djinama Yiliga to Poland, visiting Poznań (including Głuszyna), Warsaw and Kraków. The Choir was established in 2019 on the initiative of the excellent painter Cheryl Davison-Overton, with roots in the Monaro Ngarigo tribe.

Citizen Paul Edmund de Strzelecki
We obtained from the British National Archives the historic files of Paweł Strzelecki and his naturalization, i.e. a request to obtain British citizenship. We find in them the application of Strzelecki, inhabited at the time on Picadilly, under No. 117. The application is on November 14. According to another document, the applicant (application 278) obtained permission on November 28, 1845.
