Greetings from Poland to the participants of the Kosciuszko Run
February 15, 2011

On behalf of the Polish Geological Institute I would like to pass our best greetings to the participants and organizers of the 2011 edition of the Kosciuszko Run. Let me add special compliments for all of those who promoted the idea to organize that 11 km mountain run which quickly got the status of prestigious international sporting event and begins to be rewarded with due importance and attention. I am sure that the Kosciuszko Run 2011 will become a real festival for all admirers of this fascinating sport and contribute to the development of international contacts and understanding.

It is a real pleasure to hear that the second edition of this event has attracted much interest from more than 30 countries. This success is not surprising as the Run promotes physical fitness and, at the same time, commemorates two men whose outstanding achievements would not be possible without extraordinary physical fitness. Those are: General Tadeusz Kosciuszko, a hero of the American Revolution and struggles for independence of Poland, and Sir Paul Edmund de Strzelecki, who was first to explore six continents to make his greatest discoveries in and for the benefit of Australia.

We are especially pleased with commemoration of Sir Paul de Strzelecki, who was chosen as the patron of our Institute and monumental Main Hall of the Institute’s Geological Museum bears his name. We feel that that participants of the Run are on their toes and spectators are full of excitement. So, once again we wish all the luck to the participants and great time for all during the Day of Fun at Kosciuszko Run.

Truly yours,
Prof. Jerzy Nawrocki
