150 years later \u2013 The Year of Strzelecki 2023<\/strong>
Sir Paul Edmund de Strzelecki died on October 6, 1873 in London at the age of 76. What legacy did he leave to justify the celebration of a year dedicated to him? His most famous achievement in contemporary consciousness is his ascent of Australia\u2019s highest summit and naming it after Tadeusz Ko\u015bciuszko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monero Ngarigo in a Bamber barn, G\u0142uszyna<\/strong>
On a rainy day, 15th of May 2023 the guests from Australia, numerous VIPs and the local community gathered in a historic Bamber barn for an evening function. Strzelecki\u2019s List \u2013 Frank McNally on a Polish hero of the Great Famine<\/strong>
Much of Strzelecki work here was targeted at children, via schools, where they were fed another eastern European staple, rye bread. At the scheme\u2019s height, 200,000 children benefitted. How many owed their survival to Strzelecki is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Sapphire Coast to G\u0142uszyna<\/strong>
In celebration of \u201c2023 the Year of Strzelecki\u201d, Kosciuszko Heritage Inc (KHI) is organizing an expedition of the Aboriginal Choir Djinama Yiliga to Poland, visiting Pozna\u0144 (including G\u0142uszyna), Warsaw and Krak\u00f3w. The Choir was established in 2019 on the initiative of the excellent painter Cheryl Davison-Overton, with roots in the Monaro Ngarigo tribe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citizen Paul Edmund de Strzelecki<\/strong>
We obtained from the British National Archives the historic files of Pawe\u0142 Strzelecki and his naturalization, i.e. a request to obtain British citizenship. We find in them the application of Strzelecki, inhabited at the time on Picadilly, under No. 117. The application is on November 14. According to another document, the applicant (application 278) obtained permission on November 28, 1845.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
